Treatment Philosophy
People have many different reasons for seeking treatment. Some are experiencing anxiety, depression, low-self esteem, or the effects of trauma. Others are facing challenges in their relationships, dissatisfaction in their careers, or difficulty navigating life transitions. Many simply hope to gain a deeper understanding of themselves. Treatment, whether through therapy alone or in combination with medications, can provide long-lasting benefits including reduced symptoms, greater life satisfaction, and a better understanding of yourself.
In my practice, I work to gain a nuanced understanding of who you are and your reasons for seeking treatment. Together, we will decide on an individualized plan which can include individual therapy and when indicated, the thoughtful use of medications.
Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis
I have particular expertise in psychodynamic therapy and psychoanalysis, approaches in which we work to understand thoughts and feelings that are outside of your awareness but have a powerful influence on how you feel and relate to others. Together, we work to understand how your past shapes your present struggles and uncover the patterns that keep repeating in your life. Through this deeper understanding, you can begin to find better ways to resolve inner feelings, discover new ways of relating, and create meaningful, lasting change in your relationships.
In psychodynamic therapy, we meet once or twice a week. Psychoanalysis, is a more intensive process with three or four sessions per week, providing the opportunity to look more deeply at unconscious thoughts, feelings, and relational patterns. In psychoanalysis, the therapeutic relationship itself becomes a valuable space to explore how you relate to others and to yourself. Psychoanalysis is especially effective for addressing longstanding or recurring challenges—whether in relationships, career, self-esteem, or other areas where you may feel stuck.
